My innovative approach to fostering community engagement at The Line has been one of the most fulfilling and exciting chapters of my career. It all began with a simple idea: to get people out on bikes, enjoying the outdoors, and embracing a healthy, active lifestyle. What started as a passion project quickly blossomed into a series of transformative programs that brought people together, built skills, and created lasting community connections.
One of my proudest achievements was the development of the Ready To Race program. This innovative program was a partnership between The Line and Bell Laps Productions, aimed at introducing new mountain bikers to the exhilarating world of cross-country mountain bike racing. The Ready To Race program was a comprehensive package that included bike rentals, two skills clinics, race course preview rides, and race day support. We left no stone unturned in making sure participants had everything they needed to succeed. The skills clinics were a hit, providing hands-on training and tips from experienced riders. The course preview rides were another highlight, offering participants a chance to familiarize themselves with the race terrain, build confidence, and refine their strategies.
Race day was where the magic truly happened. The Line provided neutral support at the races, ensuring that every rider had access to mechanical assistance, hydration, and moral support. Seeing the participants, many of whom were racing for the first time, cross the finish line with huge smiles and a sense of accomplishment was incredibly rewarding. It wasn’t just about the race; it was about creating a supportive community that celebrated every achievement, big or small.
A key element of the Ready To Race program was our sponsorship of Bell Lap’s Westside Series. This sponsorship not only helped promote the races but also reinforced our commitment to supporting the local biking community. The partnership with Bell Laps Productions was a perfect match, as both organizations shared a vision of making mountain biking accessible, fun, and inclusive.
Building on the success of the Ready To Race program, I wanted to do even more to get people involved in biking. That’s when I developed the cycling and mountain biking skills clinics. Picture this: a group of eager cyclists, from complete beginners to seasoned riders, all gathered together at beautiful Snoqualmie Point Park, ready to learn and have fun. These clinics were more than just technical training sessions—they were community-building events where people could share their love of biking, make new friends, and gain confidence on the trails. Each clinic was carefully designed to cater to different skill levels, ensuring that everyone, regardless of experience, could participate and benefit.
Forming key community partnerships was crucial to the success of these programs. Collaborating with local businesses, bike shops, and cycling clubs allowed us to reach a wider audience and offer more resources to our participants. These partnerships were built on trust, shared goals, and a genuine passion for promoting cycling as a way to bring people together and enhance their lives.
Reflecting on my time at The Line, I am proud of how we fostered community engagement through innovative programs and strategic partnerships. The Ready To Race program, the cycling and mountain biking skills clinics, and our sponsorship of the Westside Series all played a significant role in building a vibrant, supportive community of cyclists. These initiatives not only encouraged more people to take up biking but also created lasting connections and memories. It has been an incredible journey, and I’m excited to continue finding new ways to bring people together and inspire them to live active, healthy lives.
