The Story:

My journey in new product development has unfolded as an exhilarating adventure, filled with pivotal moments that transformed my career trajectory. It began subtly at Middleby Coffee Solutions Group with a simple yet impactful task: to use Smartsheet for updating workflows and managing discrepancies in parts from vendors. This seemingly straightforward assignment spiraled into a deep dive into the capabilities of Smartsheet, paving the way for my involvement in more complex projects.

My initial foray into using Smartsheet for compliance projects was soon followed by a crucial role in the development of the ES.1, Middleby’s first venture into the high-end home espresso machine market. Tasked with creating a comprehensive Gantt chart, I mapped out all aspects of the ES.1’s development, from risk factors and complex software development milestones to production, sales, and marketing timelines. My contributions didn't stop there; I also crafted the user manual, playing a key role in ensuring the product's usability for customers.

The transition from a technical writer to a new product development manager was marked by a significant meeting where I took the helm of the ES.1 project. Stepping into this role was like crossing into a new realm where I could harness my passion for problem-solving and technical functionality. The thrill of leading diverse teams, increasing visibility and communication, and diving into the technical aspects of projects was exhilarating. Managing the ES.1 project became a dynamic blend of aligning passionate engineers, marketers, and quality control experts towards a common goal, navigating compliance with standards like ETL, UL, CE, and NSF, and integrating insights from external business partners.

Following the success of the ES.1, I took on the challenge of revamping the Synesso S-Series and later, developing a revolutionary self-clean system for Concordia Super Automatic Espresso machines. Each project was akin to conducting an orchestra or restoring a classic car—requiring synchronization of diverse departments, extensive collaboration, and rigorous testing.

Throughout my career, the most rewarding experiences have come from finding solutions to complex challenges, fostering collaboration across multifaceted teams, and pushing the boundaries of innovation. My ability to manage technical documents, navigate databases, and maintain clear communication has been crucial to my success. This journey through the world of product development has not only sharpened my project management skills but also ignited a deep-seated passion for leading teams to achieve groundbreaking results.

Reflecting on my path, I’m invigorated by the continuous opportunities to introduce cutting-edge products and enhance operational efficiencies.
